Limestone
This series tells the story of the rare limestone pavements of Cumbria and Lancashire. Working with Dr Carly Stevens, I set out to capture these rocky places where ferns, wildflowers and other specialist plants survive between the cracks.
These landscapes are fragile and changing. Grazing helps keep pavements open, but too much or too little allows scrub and trees to take over, pushing out the plants that belong here. Sick trees and weeds like nettles and thistles are signs of this shift. The combination of species, structure and balance makes these places precious.
Through these images, I hope to share the quiet beauty of these rare habitats and encourage care before they are lost.
